Aztec DPC Doberman Rescue - Rusty

small logo

Adopted 2/6/06

Rusty was seen by a family in Utah who has been wanting a Doberman as a companion for their Doberman who had lost her companion last year. When they saw Rusty they thought he would be a perfect addition to their family and a terrific companion for their Doberman, the only problem was how to get Rusty from San Diego to Utah. They contacted Rescue but, as a group of volunteers with jobs, we weren't able to find anyone who could do a 180 mile round trip on short notice during the week. A few days later, the family's plan came together and they were able to get Rusty transported to his new home.

We just received this from Rusty's new owner: "Rusty is a great dog and we are very lucky to have him in our family. I found Rusty while searching the internet for a Dobie and called his owner right away. I explained I am in Utah but will do everything it takes to get him here safely. I contacted Orange County Boxer Rescue since I have a Boxer too, I know they are wonderful real dog loving people. Brenda the founder of the rescue said she would try and help. I called Rusty's and told him we have a full train of people from the boxer rescue that are willing to help me do part of the trip from San Diego to Mesquite, where I could meet him. I was very fortunate to have found such a lovely group of people and they really went out of there way to get him to me.

"Rusty spent his first night in Oceanside, then was taken by another volunteer to Las Vegas where he spent the night with Dobie Rescue in Las Vegas. Then I had another very kind volunteer bring him to Mesquite where I met him for the first time. Rusty has been nothing but sweet. He loves my 1/2 acre and plays very well with my Dobie and Boxer. Rusty sleep in my room at night, he likes to talk all night. Rusty is very smart and has caught onto the routine fast. He knows in the am we get up, I have coffee and he and his brother and sister get breakfast. Then the kids get up and we walk them to the bus stop. He knows we then get in the car and run errands for a little while. He then likes to come home to romp and romp with the other dogs.

"Sunday we went for a hike in the Mountains, he did very well (we put a jacket on him since it was a little nippy). I have not come across a person that Rusty does not love. We are doing advanced training to keep him busy. We love him very much. Thank you Aztec Doberman Rescue."

Rusty's Story

(1/27/06) A 6 yr. old red & rust purebred Doberman with natural ears. Originally trained to be a service dog but too friendly for that function so is being adopted only to a loving family who will make him part of their family. Very well housetrained, had some crate training early in his life, needs to be kept inside, he's a lover. Rusty is a tall boy and looks very regal, he's good with kids and seems to tolerate cats. Loves and needs lots of exercise - great exercise buddy! He's a big Doberman (about 90#) and a good watchdog! He'll be a treasure for the right family.
