or send an email requesting more information on any of the listed
dogs. You will be asked to fill out the adoption information form
if you wish to be considered for adoption.
We sometimes have advance notice of dogs that may be arriving,
but are not in our program yet, so contact us to see what dogs may
be coming in. email: web@aztecdpc.com
We have new dogs in rescue.
Sadie
Female, fawn, 4 years. Cropped ears, docked tail.
She just came in and is a little overweight, but should be able
to trim down easily. At least we know that she was well fed.
Sadie came to Aztec because the owner's home was getting foreclosed
on, and she had nowhere to keep her. The original owner's wish is
that she go to a good Doberman loving home. She is well mannered,
friendly and ready to go. As for cats, again we will not promise
anything. For other dogs, you should always have the dogs meet and
greet to see if they are compatible.
Fawn, or isabella is a rare color in Dobermans, of the four accepted
colors, it is the least common. Often, they are mistaken for other
breeds, or mistaken as a mix. In all the color deviations except
for black, often the coat is a bit thinner, and more coarse and
the markings may not be a distinct.
Male, red, senior 10 years. Cropped ears, docked
tail. Harry was found as a stray wandering around Chula Vista. A
good samaritan saw the condition he was in and just had to help
him. Despite the obvious neglect, he wags his stubby tail, showing
his perpetually friendly personality.
She took him in only to find that one of her current dogs did not
approve and started to nip and bite at Harry. Being the mild mannered
dog that he is, he was getting beat up. She knew it wasn't a good
situation and called Aztec. When we took one look at that pathetic
face, and were greeted with his charm, we immediately had to take
him in.
After a thorough vet check up, his skin condition is from an allergic
reaction to fleas. While there, he was neutered and a few other
age related skin problems were treated and he was given a clean
bill of health.
Harry has been with Aztec for a couple of weeks, and is showing
some real improvement. Now on a good diet and no fleas, his coat
is coming back. Since he is a senior dog, he does have a little
stiffness here and there, but is always willing to show his happiness
when he sees people. No matter what kind of neglect some people
have dished out, Harry holds no grudges and only gives out affection
in return.
We would love to find an adopter that is willing to give an old
guy some quality time.
Male, red, approximately 9 months. Natural ears,
natural tail. Joker got his name because he is such a funny and
playful dog. Always up for a good chase or playing with the ball,
Joker is an active and energetic young man.
He is on the slender side, but otherwise in good health and of
course neutered and up to date with his vaccinations and microchip.
Joker starts off a little shy, but after a couple of minutes and
you check out "OK" with him, he is ready for romping around.
We feel he will do best with a family that is active and ready for
a dog that needs the active lifestyle. One good look at his piercing
gaze and you will have found a friend for life.
Female, red, 9 months. Natural ears, natural tail.
Misty is a super affectionate youth. She always wants to come up
and lean against you in true dobie velcro dog style. She is active,
but is not too excited about fetching the ball, after a couple of
times doing the fetch, she would rather zoom around with the ball
until you stop watching. Then she will go exploring. Give a quick
call or whistle and she will be right at your side.
She has an easy going personality, and loves to have you scracth
her belly.
Male, black and tan, approximately 7.+ years.
Natural ears, docked tail. Mojo was redcently adopted by a family
that gave him the perfect dog's life. Plenty of attention, a huge
yard, a pack of chihuahua's as playmates, even cats. What nobody
realized was that Mojo is a little unstable on tile floors, and
this home was all tile. He kept slipping and the vet said he needs
a good slip free footing like carpeting otherwise he may permanently
injure his knees. The adopting family was heartbroken to hear this,
and even more torn over the decision to give him back, even if it
were in the best interest of Mojo's health.
The previous family can tell you all about Mojo, and they think
he is a loving and personable dog that really likes being with people,
other dogs big and small and even cats. He has all the basic obedience
training needed to be an easy to handle dog.
Oso is an 18 month black and tan all natural (ears and tail) male.
He has put on weight, is a playful and mischevious youth.
He was found as a stray by animal control, skinny and confused.
He is a very energetic young boy who is learning to walk on a leash
and become a well behaved dog. It was obvious that Oso's previous
owner didn't bother give him any sort of training.
Oso is pretty smart, quickly learning basic obedience, sit, down
and stay. He gets excited around other dogs, but has shown that
he knows how to behave around new dogs, it is just a matter of reinforcing
the training.
As with any dog, time, training and the right mix of temperaments
will be the key a happy home with other animals. For now, it is
suggested that he go to a single animal home, or to an experienced
handler who is able to provide the necessary training to make Oso
a good citizen.
Male, Red, approximately 10 months. Natural ears,
natural tail. Buddy was found wandering around the hills of Temecula
behind a housing development. A good samaritan kept an eye on him
and after a week of 100 degree weather, Buddy came in exhausted.
After checking with neighbors, he was recently adopted, got out
and the owner did not bother try to catch Buddy.
Buddy is a young and energetic dog. He was nicknamed "Rocket"
for his ability to run. Because of his traumatic early days, Buddy
is very shy, and right now, we would only consider placing him in
a home that is ready to work him through his issues. He is more
of a "work in progress", but has a lot of potential. How
can anyone ignore those puppydog eyes and not want to see him grow
up into a good loyal dog in a good home.
Male, black & tan, ~2 years old. Natural ears,
docked tail. Shy boy, but once he gets to know you he really shows
his affection. Great dog with adults. Not good with cats and small
children. No known food or toy aggression. He is a bit lanky, but
is healthy. Has been through obedience training and the new owner
will need to reinforce these skills. Chance will thrive in a household
that is able to help him with his shyness. He loves to go on walks,
and this will be great dog for an active adult household who is
ready to take the time to win his affection.
Update 11/2011 Chance has been in foster and has really started
to respond favorably to the socialization. He is still a little
wary of new people until he gets to know them, but after he accepts
them, he is really starting to become a good social dog. We would
like to keep him a little longer, or would consider adopting him
to an experienced dog family, who are able to continue the positive
work that has been done so far.
Female, about 7 years. Loves people and really
gets excited when she gets a chance to meet people and interact.
Through no fault of her own, she ended up homeless due to a broken
family. She likes riding in the car, loves to get petted and not sure
if she is cat friendly, so we would recommend a cat-free house.
She is a bit rambunctious, so small children are not recommended
either.
As with most dogs, she will need some testing to assure dog friendly
compatibility. She has been well cared for, and is a bit overweight,
in fact she is downright chunky. She was checked for any medical
conditions and all check out normal. She is on a weight reduction
program of sensible diet and lots of exercise. Sasha is waiting
for the right family to take her home and let her once again become
the faithful pet she once was.
Update 11/2011: Sasha has been in a foster home for a few weeks
now, and has been getting personal training from professional trainers.
Sasha has been responding well, is showing a happy and playful side
to her character, but still needs some behavior corrections now
and then. Her weight has been going down due to a change to diet
food and a daily program of long walks. There is more work, but
she is showing progress.
